“If I were a rule, I would bend”
— Roger Waters

Alright, I don't like writing about myself but here goes.

Originally from the Atlanta, Georgia suburbs, I've spent 5 years in Providence, Rhode Island. My time there lead to a deep affection for the city and for "Little Rhody" as a whole. Known as "the creative capital", living in Down City Providence was a glorious chapter in my life.

Far from my Southern roots, my New England experience lead to lifelong friendships, great musical experiences and a real appreciation for puffy jackets.

Professionally, the 5 years served as the Director of Digital Communications for Johnson & Wales University was rewarding on many fronts. My entrepreneurial mindset did serve me inside the higher ed sector, much to the surprise of many. When not doing what creatives do, I can be found hanging with my wife, working out, dining, hiking, exploring and in the summer, golfing. A common thread woven through my adult life follows continuously reading and learning about life, always working to improve, and evolving as the world changes around me, even as an aging man.

Big props to my wife of 20+ years. Continually dealing with my perpetual adolescent mind and riding on the winding road of life, Leigh has been my partner through every mile. She is driving force behind many of the great experiences of my life and is all about adventure, as long as sleeping on the ground isn't part of it. For indeed being my better half, I'm forever grateful.

A shout out to my offspring
Fortunate am I to have 2 beautiful daughters. Hannah and Megan both have grown to be strong, thoughtful, caring, and compassionate women. They both possess serious creative chops, critical in today's environment even if their career choices are not in a traditional creative industry. I'm thrilled both young women are beautiful human beings who employ excellent critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities with the insight and intellect to use them. This world desperately needs more young people like mine. My overt bias is duly noted.

The time was right

2018 presented an opportunity for change, a new chapter. I elected to "pause" my career in an effort to fulfill a 40-year-old dream and thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. A window of opportunity opened up and with seriously mixed emotions, I chose to step away from directing the Digital Communications division of Johnson & Wales University. Leaving my team is one of the hardest professional decisions of my life. I genuinely love those people and feel it was an honor to lead them.

Unfortunately, my quest abruptly ended after only covering 1/3 of the journey. Months of preparation, training, and planning couldn't allow for the unforeseen. Serious medical issues arose forcing a return to Georgia. Fortunately, after enduring many tests, surgery and implementing lifestyle modifications, I've bounced back strong. Yay for modern medicine.

It was a transparent look at the literal and emotional ups and downs that was my 2018, 709.4 mile Appalachian Trail hike. The plain and sometimes painful truth of a long walk in the woods. It just wasn't long enough.
