Baseballisms in 2009. The mission was to develop an archive of user-generated content, in various media, of personal baseball experiences through the stories of true fans. We loved the embrace of the community and had a "ball" working the project. Unfortunately, at that time in the digital evolution, our preeminent audience was not as engaged as they are now. Facebook wasn't yet a primary news source for Boomers; Twitter had not become the broadcast platform full of trolls as it is now. YouTube was also taking root but not flourishing as it is today. People were just figuring it out.
Part of that progression, however, included conversations, creative narration, and observations posted in real-time. Many funny and insightful comments in the Twitter feed made by baseball fans of all stripes, engage as the drama played out. We participated in and leveraged this by creating a curated ebook during the 2009 playoffs and the following season opening day. Selecting some of the best nuggets of shared tweets, we engaged, monitored, and compiled a colorful and fun read.
PLEASE NOTE- Context matters > These ebooks created in the late 2000s before tools for capturing such elements were automated and prevalent. We manually researched, captured, and created this emerging form of content.
Had other opportunities not diverted our time, Baseballisms could have grown into a force. While others may have emulated our concept, the vision of Baseballisms remains viable. Who knows, we may very well get back into the game one day and step into the box for another at-bat!
